Is development aid an imperialist tool?
Is development aid an imperialist tool?
Seminar
Developing strategies, visions and alternatives, Cross-movement dialogue/debate ('confrontative dialogue')
Others and/or Cross-thematic
Many of the organisations participating at the ESF, inclusive the Left International Forum, work with development aid projects in countries in the South or East. Most of us receive funds from our governments. But aid conditionality affects the receiving countries directly or indirectly in areas such as economic politics, the political system and the focus of civil society organisations. What is an appropriate strategy and position of progressive organisations in Europe toward development aid? Is the development aid today an imperialist tool? Is it possible to transform it into a tool for the liberation of poor people and countries and how can that be done? These are questions we would like to discuss with European organisations, as well as with the guests and participants from aid receiving countries.
